Instagram is an online photo and video sharing social network, used primarily on mobile devices. Users can also cross-post photos to Facebook, Twitter, foursquare, Flickr and Tumblr. According to the site’s terms of service, users are not allowed to post violent, nude, partially nude, discriminatory, unlawful, infringing, hateful, pornographic or sexually suggestive photos.
The stated age limit for Instagram is 13 years old, although the site does little in the way of enforcement. Especially with younger users, we recommend that user profiles are set to private, and that teens do not accept follower requests from or communicate with people they do not know. Users with accounts that are not set to private might have their pictures posted on Instagram aggregation websites.
While Instagram states that users must be at least 13 years of age, there is no guarantee that younger users who lie about their age will be caught.
